Headgear does not Reduce the Incidence of, or the Severity of Sports Related Concussion

A US based randomised control trial has determined that headgear does not reduce the incidence or severity of sport-related concussion (SRC) in US high school soccer players.

The trial included 2766 participants of whom 130 participants sustained a Sports Related Concussion.

Researchers found that the incidence of concussion was no different between the headgear group and the non headgear group, whilst days lost from concussion were also no different.

Based on their sturdy, the researchers have therefore concluded that soccer headgear does "not reduce the incidence or severity of SRC in high school soccer players".
