UEFA launches concussion awareness campaign


Improving concussion management in football is the focal point of a new awareness campaign being launched by UEFA.

The campaign is designed to educate players, coaches, referees, doctors and the general public about concussion in football.

Approximately 1.1 to 1.9 million children 18 years old or younger suffer sport/recreation-related concussions in the U.S. annually. The purpose of this review was to assess research articles examining concussion knowledge of youth sport athletes, coaches and parents.

Spectacle vs safety in sport

Ross Tucker looks at how we can change sport to make it safer, but not changing it too much so the stakeholders reject the change.

"what is the smallest change you can make to the sport that will achieve the desired outcome?

That’s important because the spectacle does matter – you can’t change the DNA of the sport, and “contact” is part of rugby (and the NFL), so its stakeholders will reject changes to contact that are deemed too large."
